For some athletes, hanging up the running spikes as they get older is not an option. After dedicating their youth to their sport, their bodies remain in peak condition to continue to compete and World Masters Athletics gives women and men of no less than 35 years of age the opportunity to continue to compete against athletes of their own age.
Just because an athlete retires from the professional ranks does not mean that they lose their competitive edge. The fire that burns within them does not go out, and they can keep competing, keep trying, until they reach 100 years of age – and this actually happens!
Masters athletics is a concept where athletes over the age of 35 can pit themselves against others in similar age groups, to keep that competitive spirit burning.

Perth 2016 World Masters Athletics Championships
Australia’s very own Perth has won the right to host the 2016 World Masters Athletics Championships, and promises to be an event of epic proportions! Athletes from around the world will test themselves against old foes from years gone by, whether it’s on the track over 100 metres (and some of these champions could still outpace an average 20-year-old over the distance!) or out in the field heaving the shot put.
Age is all the rage
This is an event that Australian sports fans won’t want to miss, and when it’s happening right on our doorstep, you’ve no excuse not to head on over to Perth for this extravaganza.
