2 great artists to grace the Leeuwin Estate Concert

Leeuwin Estate is one of the best-known and loved wine producers in all Australia, with vino lovers worldwide waxing lyrical about their fine vintages. However, since 1985, Leeuwin Estate has become just as famous for the concerts held annually at its vineyards. Indeed, the event regularly attracts in the region of 6,000 revellers, all looking for that perfect combination – a fine glass of vino and music to move by.

Motive Travel have been putting together Leeuwin Estate Concert package tours for a while now, but we don’t just stop at providing you with tickets to the shindig. In 2015, we put our guests up in selected hotels in Busselton, not far from Margaret River, and provided a bus to transport them to and from the event – take a look at our 2015 itinerary for a more detailed idea of what we’re planning for the 2016 event.

Though the line-up for next year’s event has yet to be announced, allow yourself to be whipped up in a frenzy of excitement by looking back at some of the greatest artists to have graced the stage at Leeuwin Estate.

1988 – Ray Charles and the West Australia Symphony Orchestra

The ‘High Priest of Soul’ took to the stage in 1988 to a huge reception, delving into his enormous back catalogue and performing a medley of hits with the West Australia Symphony Orchestra. He was the first mainstream star to perform at the Leeuwin Estate Concert – the three previous concerts featured classical performers.

1992 – Diana Ross

The American diva is almost as equally well known for her tantrums and demands as she is her music, and she lived up to this reputation at the 1992 event. Not only did she insist that the winery sign be removed from her line of sight, she also requested that 40 fresh white towels be provided for her use.

Not used to the wild of Western Australia, Ms Ross was also puzzled by her dressing room – a caravan at the back of the stage. It must have been a far cry from the pampered dressing rooms of her showbiz career – but she still blew the crowd away!
