What can you get up to at The Fathering Project Rottnest Tour 2016?

At Motive Travel, we’re most often associated with providing top-quality travel packages to sporting events all around the world. Though this still remains a core part of our business, it’s not just these on which we focus. In recent months, we’ve partnered up with The Fathering Project, a noble initiative designed to help fathers become better at what they do. In short, The Fathering Project is looking to ensure that every child in Australia has a strong, dependable father – or father figure – in their lives.

Fathering Time

You can read a little more about what The Fathering Project is all about in our previous blog post about this worthy cause, and in this article, we’re going to take a closer look at just what dads and their children can get up to when they sign up with Motive Travel. We’ve recently put the finishing touches to our Fathering Project trip to Rottnest, so we’re more than a little excited about these few days in November – just like everyone is before they go on holiday!

We’ve recently put the finishing touches to our Fathering Project trip to Rottnest.

On the weekend that starts Friday, November 18, through to Sunday, November 20, Motive Travel, in partnership with The Fathering Project, are taking fathers and their children on a short journey across Western Australian seas to Rottnest Island, where we have put together some incredible treats for fathers to enjoy with their children. When you get a chance, take a look at what we have in store, including a Dads and Kids Bike Ride around the island and a Dads’ Function where dads will gain knowledge and parenting tips – this is sure to be a fantastic trip for everyone involved!

An island adventure

As far as islands go, Rottnest is a mere toddler in the global scheme of things. Experts believe that it became separated from the mainland around 7,000 years ago, when sea levels rose. When the sea cut Rottnest off from the rest of Western Australia, it caused this tiny island to create an ecosystem that is entirely its own – you can find plants and animals here that will not be seen anywhere else on the planet.

Today, just 100 people live permanently on the island, making it a wonderful, beautiful wilderness just begging to be explored. Its unusual name stems from 17th century Dutch explorer, Willem de Vlamingh, who mistook the local quokka population for giant rats, and called it a ‘rats nest’. Perhaps not the most endearing of descriptions, but it hasn’t hampered Rottnest in becoming one of Western Australia’s top holiday destinations – and the perfect place for a father to spend a few days with his children.

Rottnest Island is home to some of the most spectacular beaches in Australia – and that’s saying something. Fathers and their children can take a dip in sparkling seas and bays that surround Rottnest, or perhaps throw in a line in the hope of catching something to eat. Perhaps you and your little one prefer to keep your feet dry, in which case you can take to two wheels and explore the sprawling green forest and open bushland at your leisure – a great way to bond with your tiny troops. Can you spot a quokka?

A Rottnest ripper

During this enchanting weekend in November, you’ll be staying at the historic Kingstown Barracks, which are perfectly located for any fun activities to take part in on Rottnest. The price includes breakfast and dinner for each day, as well as ferry transfers, and as a local holiday, we’re able to keep prices down to reasonable levels. There is no limit as to how many of your children you want to bring along, so be sure to get in touch with us if you want to connect with your children in a positive, enriching way.
