The Motive Story

Established in 1973

Motive Travel was established in 1973 by Clive Nelthorpe who, after a lifetime of service, was in 2011 awarded the Sir David Brand Medal in The Western Australian Tourism Awards; one of the highest accolades to be received in the Western Australian tourism industry.  Clive, who sadly passed away in 2015, watched over as Motive Travel flourished through its early days and picked up speed in the travel heyday of the 1987 America’s Cup held in Fremantle, Western Australia.

It was during the America’s Cup that George Michalczyk first entered the Motive Travel environs, when he was invited to handle special sponsor needs for the event.

In 1989 George took over ownership of Motive Travel and since then Motive has become a dominant force in the Australian travel industry.

George has handled the growth of Motive Travel like the true Australian Rules Football player he was.

He is hard-running, has the stamina to see things through, has played the travel game well and continues to create the play for continued success.  (FYI, George Michalczyk was well known in his younger days as a gifted centre player for East Perth and then West Perth.)

George’s very early football days in Exmouth, 1972. Find him in the back row, 5th from the left.
