Get yourself ready for the 2016 AFL season

Can you hear that? It’s the sound of thousands of football fans gearing themselves up for the looming 2016 AFL season, which is just a few short weeks away. If you’re a big fan of the AFL (and let’s face it, who isn’t?) you can’t have failed to keep up with the storming performances of the Western Australian teams in particular. Indeed, the West Coast Eagles and the Fremantle Dockers dominated through much of the season, and all signs pointed towards a historic Western Derby Grand Final in Melbourne – but it wasn’t to be.

Hawthorn Hawks saw off the Dockers in their semi, ending all hopes for a Derby, but the Eagles managed to make it to the Grand Final for a titanic showdown against the Victorian outfit. Sadly, the Hawks were in imperious form, crushing the Eagles by a 16.11 (107) to 8.13 (61) margin, in the ‘Battle of the Birds of Prey’.

A new season, a new hope

However, that was last season and, disappointed though Western Australian fans may have been at the end of a hugely promising campaign for both teams, there is a new season to look forward to, beginning Thursday, March 24th. The good news for fans of both the Eagles and the Dockers is that they are second and third favourites respectively to lift the trophy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in early October – however, the Hawks take the top spot, owing to their triumph last season.

If there is any game on the AFL fixture list outside of Perth that you’d be keen to check out, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Motive Travel.

The Grand Final is always a huge event, no matter which teams make it to the last match. To illustrate this, almost 100,000 managed to get themselves a seat at the MCG for the game, according to the official website, and that’s a number that’s likely to be repeated for the forthcoming season. Though we at Motive Travel always lay on great packages for the AFL Grand Final – our man at the top, George Michalczyk, has been in attendanceĀ at the last 40 of them – they’re not the only games that we arrange for our customers.

Any game, anywhere!

That’s right – if there is any game on the AFL fixture list outside of Perth that you’d be keen to check out, no matter where in Australia it’s kicking off, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Motive Travel. We canĀ arrange passage, accommodation… and maybe a little more in between if we can pull the right strings. We’ve arranged packages for all kinds of different events – and AFL games are one of our specialities!
